New partnerships for 0xcert

EU Erasmus+ project, K4A and others join forces with 0xcert to start the non-fungible future of education

0xcert is delighted to have joined the consortium of partners on the EU Erasmus+ project, the aim of which is to introduce micro-credentialing into higher level education.

Main 0xcert partners:

  • Knowledge 4 All Foundation Ltd. (K4A)
  • Jožef Stefan Institute (IJS)

Other consortium partners include:

  • Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg
  • Cooperative State University Baden-Württemberg (DHBW)
  • European Distance and E-Learning Network, EDEN
  • Fondazione Politecnico di Milano
  • Knowledge Innovation Centre (Malta) Ltd.

30+ years of Erasmus now moving to the blockchain

So why is this something worth talking about? What does micro-credentialing even mean? Let's break down these abstract concepts and understand how this will enhance our lives as EU citizens.

Most of us who now reside somewhere in the EU were educated in one school, some of us had the privilege of joining an exchange program, getting and benefiting from having access to courses in another country or even perhaps in another language. And it may have been the best experience ever, to live and to learn somewhere else, to meet new people or even to be able to take courses on-line without the need to travel. But the reality is that being involved in different programs or taking courses from various schools tends to be a bureaucratic nightmare - often, these courses are not recognized as a credit towards your degree automatically and sometimes they are not recognized at all. For institutions, it is also a real constraint because it is oftentimes difficult to evaluate whether particular courses of another university or institution are in line with their requirements for a student or learner to obtain a diploma. While people in EU enjoy free mobility across European borders, and share a common currency, the education system however still lacks the level of integration and mobility that could be granted to European citizens.

Custom-made education powered by 0xcert

Imagine having the ability to pick courses from various educational institutions, depending on their offer and specialization. Imagine taking courses from 4 different universities, some of them even conducted on-line, during a 3-year study program without the problem of having those courses recognized towards your degree. Each course or a set of courses are considered to be a micro-credential, and as the certain number of micro-credentials accumulate, a learner can then obtain a diploma. Furthermore, these micro-credentials will be issued on the blockchain to the wallet of the student who will be able to choose where and when to transform these micro-credentials into a degree, thus empowering the learner.

Such ambitious and large scale changes are certainly not doable overnight. We are well aware of the complexity and scale. But ambitious visions such as these are exactly why we built 0xcert, and we are very proud to offer the technological solution for this project. 0xcert will be providing the underlying technology for issuing micro-credentials to learners who go through the described process.

We are happy to be a part of this endeavor since the beginning, and look forward to supporting this project as it grows.
